Most roofing companies of our size run on subcontracted labour. It is cheaper, it scales fast, and it means the person who quoted your job may never meet the people who do it.
Why we never use subcontractors
We went the other way. Every roofer who sets foot on your property:
Is on our payroll, not a subcontractor's
Carries our insurance
Has been through the same training on the systems we fit
Answers to the lead who walked your roof at the inspection
It costs us more per job and we think it is the only reason our warranty is worth anything.
What to ask any roofer before you sign
Ask who will actually be on site, and whether they are employed or subcontracted. It is a fair question, it takes ten seconds to answer, and the answer tells you how the job will run more reliably than the quote does.
Then ask who to call if something goes wrong in year three. If the answer involves a different company, a manufacturer's helpline, or a pause, you have your answer.
What that changes on site
It also changes how the work gets done. A crew that will still be here in five years does not cut a corner that shows up in three.
